The morning adhkar (adhkar al-sabah) are a set of supplications and remembrances the Prophet ﷺ taught us to recite after Fajr prayer. Together they form a spiritual shield for the day: seeking protection, asking for forgiveness, and placing the coming hours under Allah's care. Ibn Abbas (RA) reported that the Prophet ﷺ was never negligent of his morning adhkar, teaching them to his Companions just as he taught them the Quran.

When to Recite Morning Adhkar

The morning adhkar begin after the Fajr prayer and extend until the sun rises fully — some scholars extend this to Dhuhr for those who miss the earlier window. The best time is immediately after Fajr, still seated on your prayer mat. Aim to complete them before sunrise to follow the strongest narrations.

Key Morning Adhkar from the Sunnah

1. Opening the Morning

Allahumma bika asbahna, wa bika amsayna, wa bika nahya, wa bika namutu, wa ilayka al-nushur

"O Allah, by You we enter the morning, and by You we enter the evening, and by You we live and by You we die, and to You is the resurrection." Said every morning. (Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi)

2. The Three Quls — Recited Three Times Each

Surah Al-Ikhlas, Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas are each recited three times every morning and every evening. Abdullah ibn Khubayb (RA) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said: "Recite 'Qul Huwallahu Ahad' and Al-Mu'awwidhatayn three times in the morning and evening; they will suffice you against everything." (Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi)

3. Sayyid al-Istighfar — The Master of Seeking Forgiveness

Shaddad ibn Aws (RA) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever says this in the morning with certainty, and dies before evening, will be among the people of Paradise." (Bukhari)

4. Subhan Allah wa Bihamdihi — 100 Times

Say "Subhanallahi wa bihamdihi" (Glory be to Allah and His is the praise) one hundred times every morning. Abu Hurayrah (RA) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever says 'SubhanAllahi wa bihamdihi' one hundred times in the morning and evening, no one will come on the Day of Resurrection with anything better than him, except one who said the same or more." (Bukhari, Muslim)
